Description

Maintain diesel equipment operations by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements; and correcting vehicle deficiencies in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner.

Responsibilities

Keep equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventative maintenance such as: engine tuneups, oil changes, and replacing filters; maintain vehicle functioning condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures;  diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; identifying worn and damaged parts; replacing parts and components; read precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multimeters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools; verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems; comply with state vehicle requirements as established by DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards; maintain vehicle record by noting service and repairs in computer; complete all paperwork and electronic or manual records in an accurate and timely manner; and maintain personal hand tools adequate in type, number, and in proper condition to safely perform the functions of the position.

Qualifications

Must possess a valid drivers license; must be able to read and write and have the mental capacity to complete required paperwork and records; must have working knowledge of most of the systems located on a truck or private passenger vehicle; must be able to read precision instruments such as micrometers, digital multimeters, calibrators, and other electronic diagnostic tools; must be able to troubleshoot and do failure analysis of some of the component parts and systems on the vehicle; must have knowledge, understanding and application of safety practices related to this position and the knowledge and understanding or proper handling of hazardous materials; and 2+ years experience preferred.
